Rates in July and August typically run $120–$180; in February, $90–$130. For a 6 a.m. departure, I'd book a Wolf Road hotel with a 24-hour shuttle over a downtown one, because crossing the river at rush hour is unpredictable.

If you want a greener option, consider the Courtyard Albany Airport on Computer Drive East, which has a small solar array and a shuttle that starts at 4 a.m. The Hilton Garden Inn on Albany Shaker Road is another solid pick with a restaurant open late. Both are within a 10-minute drive of the terminal. Avoid the no-name motels on Central Avenue west of Colonie; they are cheap but poorly maintained and not near anything walkable.

Downtown Albany: Walkable and Transit-Friendly

Downtown Albany, around State Street and Broadway, is 9 miles from ALB—about 15 minutes without traffic, 25 in rush hour. These are best in fall (late September–October) for foliage. Without a car, skip them; Amtrak to Hudson or Saratoga is possible but you'll still need rideshares. ALB is a small airport; you rarely need more than 90 minutes before departure. If you're renting a car, pick it up at the terminal—off-site lots add 20 minutes.

Skip the downtown Albany hotels if you have a pre-dawn flight, and skip Saratoga if you're only staying one night.
